Moroc Telecom acquires majority stake of Malian company


Bamako, Mali, 08 July – (ANA) - Morocco's telecoms operator “Maroc

Telecom” has acquired 51% of Malian state-owned telecommunications

company Sotelma, for

€ 275 million.


The managing director of Maroc Telecom, Abdeslam Ahizoune, was received

by president Amadou Toumani Toure and signed the agreement of the deal

in Bamako with Malian minister of communication and new technologies

in charge of privatisation, Diarra Mariam Plantie Diallo, and Malian

minister of economy and finance, Sanoussi Touré.


President Amadou Toumani Toure, Prime Minister Modibo Sidibé, members

of the Malian government and Morocco's ambassador to Mali all attended

the signing ceremony.


Ahizoune said that Maroc Telecom would endeavor to make Sotelma a

reference operator at the regional level.


He stressed that the success of this operation attests to the two

countries' will to consolidate bilateral economic co-operation, adding

that the Moroccan company will enable Sotelma to learn from its

accumulated expertise.


Maroc Telecom is also present in other African countries, namely

Mauritania, Burkina Faso and Gabon. (ANA)
