Alexandria, Egypt, 8 Oct. - (ANA) - The Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) announced the shortlisted nominees of the Mediterranean Journalist Award for this year. The Journalist Award, which was founded in 2006 by the ALF and International Federation of Journalists, is considered the leading media prize in the Mediterranean region for reporting across cultures and on issues of cultural diversity. It aims at rewarding exceptional journalistic productions, contributing to a better understanding of the diversity of cultures in the Euro-Med region.
This year 350 applications, tackling intercultural issue between and within the Euro-Med societies,  were received from around the 42 countries of the Union for the Mediterranean, in addition to Syria and Libya.

The 8th edition of the Mediterranean Journalist Award will be hosted by the Thomson Reuters Foundation in London, United Kingdom, on the 15th of October, in collaboration with Ashark Al Awsat, BBC Arabic Service and Allianz Cultural Foundation.

This year a jury made up of prestigious media professionals and outstanding intellectuals will select 5 winners to be awarded. In addition, a special award will be dedicated this year to the theme “The diverse faces of intolerance in the Euro-Mediterranean Region”.

The winners will be announced by the jury on the same day. Winners will receive an award trophy, a cash prize for their journalistic contribution for reporting across cultures and will be invited to participate in the activities of Anna Lind Foundation and its partners for the following year.

This year’s jury will be composed of leading media professionals including: Michel Toss (Germany), the managing director of the Allianz Cultural Foundation; Naglaa El-Emary (Egypt), Editor in chief of Al-Shorouk online; Pier Luigi Malesani (Italy), the Secretary General of the COPEAM; Robert Parsons (France), the Editorial director of the English content at France 24; Rania Abouzeid (Lebanon), former winner of Mediterranean Journalist Arab and a correspondent of the Time; Hatim Btioui (Morocco), the director of political affairs at the London based Al Shark Al Awsat newspaper; Gisele Khoury (Lebanon), President of Samir Kassir Foundation. The jury be headed by the founder of the New Arab Debate, the renowned British journalist Tim Sebastian. In addition, the ALF president, Andre Azoulay, will preside the overall Award and the ALF  Executive Director, Andrew Claret, will be acting as the Secretary of the Jury.

The Anna Lindh Foundation is an international organisation which promotes intercultural exchanges and common projects among the civil societies of the Euro-Mediterranean region. (ANA)
